Bavarian Brothers Brewing at the Bavarian Inn WV
Soft Opening Fall of 2018
Grand Opening and our Beer in January 2019
The Bavarian Inn is proud to introduce its newest addition "Bavarian Brothers Brewing". Coming this fall the Inn will feature a brewery, brew pub and soft seating lounge for it's guests to enjoy. Sample seasonal beers made on site matched with intelligent yet comfortable cuisine and small bites by Executive Chef Alyson Zimmerman. This new project also features a new outdoor patio and event space overlooking the manicured grounds.
We thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we roll out space as available and ready.
Update as of November 9th:
Our Lounge and Pub space will be open, featuring our regular dining menus as well as a rotating menu of 6 casual options. This will give our Chef time to test his creations and finalize what items may be found on our final Brew Pub Menu coming in January. While our own beers are still a few months away our tap system is up and running. We are proud to pour four German Brews on draft as well as four local craft beers on tap. When you add all our bottle selections it totals almost 30 from around the world available to enjoy. Don’t forget our wine selections and craft cocktails. We will unveil the completed concept, our beers and our final casual menu in early January after the holidays. Until then we invite you to visit, give feedback and have fun!
As of 11/9 Pub open daily from 2pm til 10pm (9pm for food)
The symbol used in the center of the logo can be found on the front door of the Asamkirche, “Asam Church” in Munich Germany that has been welcoming visitors since the 1700’s. The church was built by two brothers Asam, ancestors of Christian and David. The brewery is a nod to our family heritage. This symbol means that all are “welcome” to enjoy our next adventure! Click here for more history.
There are 4 main components to the new concept.
Bavarian Brothers Brewery will make high quality micro-brews. The Asam’s have been working with Falling Waters Brewery Consultants to be sure that the brewing process will be state of the art, a superior quality and more importantly consistent. The beer will be for sale on property through-out the Inn and a growler filling station will be available for guests to take beer to go. In the initial stages the beer will not be bottled and there are no immediate plans to distribute beer off site. However the door remains open should opportunity present it self in the future.
It is not our intention to make only German Beer nor to attempt to copy or replace the quality beers from Germany that we already sell. The beers will be a representation of what we try to do throughout our property, “Remember our European Roots, and Embrace our West Virginia Location”. While recipes are still being worked on we look forward to having fun and taking a whimsical approach to naming them. Some early ideas include: (subject to change
Erwin’s Angry Ale: an IPA
A nod to the Inn’s founder Erwin Asam this is whimsically named to celebrate Erwin’s fine “German engineering”. He is known to be a man of incredible work ethic, vision and of course his velocity of speed to accomplish all tasks.
Carols’ Royal Stout:
A beer celebrating the Queen of the Bavarian Inn, Carol Asam. A native of Sheffield England, Carol’s proud British accent has filled the halls of the Inn for the past 40 years!
Mecklenbrau German Pilsner
Mecklenburg was the original name for Shepherdstown originally founded by German settlers. Shepherdstown’s main street is still named German Street. This beer celebrates the town that we are happy to call home.
Zwei Bruder Hefeweizen
Translating to “Two Brothers Wheat Beer” this beer is a salute to the Asam Brothers of the 1700’s. Hefeweizen is the most popular beer in Munich the original Asam brothers home, however this West Virginia twist on the original is unique and delicious.
Sozial All Day Ale
The German word for social or socialize, that is what this easy going brew is all about. The perfect beer to be “social” with at the tail gate, bbq or in our Beer Garden.
SheTown Summer Sour
This summer seasonal sour is made with Grapefruit, Orange Peel and Sea Salt. SheTown has long been a nickname for Shepherdstown, a great place to spend the summer. Enjoy our Summer Sour floating on the Potomac, on a hike, or with your feet in the Town Run. Refreshing acidity, low cal and low carb make this sour beer a summer favorite.
Luggage Assistance, Old Thyme Porter
Get it? A Porter does Luggage Assistance! What? Bad hotel joke? Welcome to the Hospitality Industry! A dark beer that is a notch lighter than the Stout but still “packed” (ok I will stop) with flavor and an elegant mouthfeel. This throwback “Old Thyme” Beer follows a traditional English recipe.
The Brew Pub
The Brew Pub is being built where our current Garden Patio is. This will be a dining area with wooden tables and chairs that can be set up flexibly for individual dining tables or to mimic a German style beer hall. The room will have high A-frame type ceilings with exposed wooded beams. The east wall of the pub has glass doors that can all fold upon each other bringing the outside in on beautiful day and also access to our new Garden Patio. The west wall of the pub will also be glass, but the view will be the brewery and its impressive stainless steel tanks. The Inn has hired highly acclaimed “Industrial Design” of Frederick Maryland to design the pub and lounge. The finished product is sure to be nothing short of stunning.
The Brew Lounge (open daily 7am til 11pm)
The current Hunt Room will be transformed in to the new Brew Lounge. This area is designed to give our guest an all day soft seating lounge and bar. Wood Floors, Leather Sofas, High Back Chairs and a stone fireplace is the focal piece. The bar will be completely re-done and enlarged with the addition of bar stool seating, showcasing 8-10 draft beers; some of our own and other well-chosen varieties. A state of the art wine preservation machine will offer wine flights and 8 premium wines by the glass. Also expect a creative, cutting edge cocktail offerings! The bar will also double as a quick service coffee counter in the AM hours featuring coffee, cappuccino, espresso and other coffee drinks by local roaster, Black Dog Coffee. Small pastries and breakfast bites will also be available for purchase. Our Chef and Food and Beverage Team are still in the design phase of the new menu. This new concept is about giving our guests something different. This is a casual dining concept offering small bites, sandwiches and lighter options. However these items will be true to our European Roots and West Virginia location, with local sourced ingredients, intelligent in design and presentation.
The Beer Garden
Since the new brew pub will be going in the location of our current garden patio, plans have been made to build a new patio for outdoor dining. The new “Beer Garden” Patio will be accessible from all three dining areas: The Brew Pub, The Brew Lounge and the fine dining Potomac Room. A new feature of the outdoor dining area will be a firepit that can burn both real logs and gas - propane. Enjoy after dinner drinks around the fire or families are invited to roast marshmallows with our smore kits.
The Potomac Room and Rathskeller will continue to offer the fine dining concept that our Inn has been known for, for the past 40 years. What excites us most about the Brewing Pub and Lounge changes is that it offers our guests something new without removing anything that our guests have enjoyed in the past.
We look forward to unveiling the final product in January, until then we invite you to visit and see our progress!
